Ten jobs have been created in Hartlepool thanks to a fashion firm which is re-investing in the town.

Select Retail, which provides ladies fashion clothing, has opened a store in the Middleton Grange Shopping Centre in Hartlepool.

I have had people coming to the store in Middlesbrough and asking when we were going to open up in Hartlepool.

It has brought employment to the town with ten new positions created - but the numbers may increase if the new Select branch performs well, according to bosses at the nationally renowned company.

Sarah Jenkinson, a store manager from Middlesbrough who has been overseeing the opening of the new premises, said the demand for a branch of the firm in Hartlepool has always been there.

She said the customer response had been showing itself in other branches where clients were regularly asking questions.

“I have had people coming to the store in Middlesbrough and asking when we were going to open up in Hartlepool.

“It is always somewhere that we wanted to go back to.

“We have taken ten new staff on at the moment and we have filled one of the empty units in the centre. The reaction has been really positive from the customers.”

Sarah said everyone from college students to mums returning to work had come forward to work at Select in Middleton Grange.

Jobs ranging from sales advisors to a supervisor and deputy manager and manager have been created and Sarah added: “If the store does well, there is the prospect for more jobs in the future.

“We are always hearing about the North East being the worst for unemployment and it is nice to create some jobs for the people in the region.”

Select provides ladies fashion and caters for “everyone’s needs,” said Sarah. “It is good quality and affordable for everyone. We just want everyone to come in and have a look, and have a browse around.”

Select has more than 150 UK stores and rapid expansion plans are in place. Bosses say the key focus is on opening more prime trading stores throughout the UK.

Select previously had a store in Hartlepool and has returned to town after the company continued its efforts to build its portfolio back up.

The new store in the shopping centre is just over 4,000 square foot.
