A BUSINESSMAN has paid his respects to tragic PC David Rathband.

PC Rathband was found dead in his home on Wednesday night in a suspected suicide.

The inspirational dad lost his sight in 2010 after he was shot twice in the face by crazed killer Raoul Moat.

Businessman Duncan Bannatyne, who lives in Wynyard is a patron of the Blue Lamp Foundation, a charity set up by PC Rathband after the attack to support emergency services personnel injured in the line of duty as a result of a criminal act.

After hearing the tragic news of 44-year-old PC Rathband’s death, Mr Bannatyne posted on social networking site Twitter: “What a sad day. RIP #pcdavidrathband.

“So so sorry I couldn’t do more for you.”

Another post from him said: “Unarmed & shot not once but twice full in the face by a coward RIP.”
