Chris Langan, of Hartlepool & District Motor Club, said: “We are known all over Britain for autotest.

“We usually have a lot drivers from quite a wide area entering our events. People come from Cumbria, Newcastle, Whitley Bay and down to York.”

Drivers are scored according to the speed and accuracy they complete courses skidding round bollards.

Chris added: “One way to describe it is as half way between stunt driving and rally driving, but without the speed.

“The cars are designed for drivers to hone their skills like spinning around bollards.

“The crowds often love to see the cars skidding around.”

The competition is split into different categories including sports cars, minis and front and rear wheel drive saloons.

Spectators will be afforded perfect views from the ramp and walkways above the car park behind York Road.

The event runs from 10am-4pm.
