Carols in store for shoppers

A TWO-DAY Christmas carol singing spectacular performed by children from 13 schools across Hartlepool starts today.

The singing and instrumental concert, in aid of the town branch of children’s charity the NSPCC, is being held at Tesco, in Burn Road, Hartlepool, today and tomorrow.

Dozens of youngsters, aged from four up to 16, from 13 schools across town will take part.

NSPCC volunteers will be on hand with charity buckets for members of the public to make any kind donations.

The festive show, organised by Julia Patterson, district chairman of Hartlepool NSPCC, has been running for the last 15 years.

She hopes it will be as popular this year as in previous years.

“We’ve been doing this for a lot of years now and we always raise quite a bit of money,” she told the Mail.

“The children and staff from the schools are so kind to take time out of their lessons and come out and sing in aid of such a special charity. It’s really generous of them.

“All of the money we raise will go directly to the local NSPCC.”

Youngsters from Eldon Grove Primary School, in Eldon Grove, kicked off the songs at 9.30am until 10am, and then St John Vianney’s Primary School, in King Oswy Drive, were showcasing their singing skills from 10am until 10.30am.
