FIREFIGHTERS were called to rescue a cat that got trapped in a car engine.

A crew from Peterlee Fire Station was sent to the Asda car park in Peterlee, where the ginger moggy had got startled and scrambled under a car and into its chassis.

But there wasn’t much the firefighters could do but wait for the puss to come out.
After 20 minutes the cat emerged from the engine bay.

A station spokesman said: “Somebody scared a cat and it ran underneath a car and managed to climb up into the engine bay.

“We just hung around and it came out itself.”

The incident happened about 5.50pm on Wednesday.
