A HOUSING group is giving musicians the chance to play alongside top names during one of the region’s biggest live music festivals.
The Vela Group, which includes Housing Hartlepool, has launched a search for unsigned acts to take part in its Edge competition.
Bands and solo artists could win a top prize – the chance to take to the stage at this year’s Stockton Weekender festival, from August 3-5
The winner will feature in a festival line-up that includes headline acts such as New York singer/songwriter Willy Mason, James, Simon and Oscar, of Ocean Colour Scene, and Irish band The Pogues.
Vela Group chief executive Cath Purdy said: “This is a great opportunity for budding musicians to gain exposure and demonstrate their talent at one of the most popular music festivals in the North-East with the Stockton Weekender attracting thousands of visitors.
“As a housing group, Vela offers so much more than good quality homes, it also helps develop people and boost their confidence and skills to achieve their goals.”
The competition, which is being organised in conjunction with Tees Music Alliance, is open to those aged 15 and over.
Registration is at www.facebook.com/velahomes and the closing date is Friday, April 20.
A panel of judges, from Vela, Tees Music Alliance and Vela’s charity of the year, Daisy Chain, will whittle the entries down to a short list of five.
The lucky five will be put through their paces at an audition at the Georgian Theatre in Stockton on May 11.
