CHANGES are set to be imoposed in the opening hours at waste receyling centres.
Durham County Council changes to Household Waste Recycling Centres will come into effect from June 1.
The new arrangements follow a review of the service, which included a public consultation on proposals to reduce the number of sites and change opening hours.
As a result of the review and consultation, two of the council’s sites – at Broomsdene and Cragwood – will close at the end of this month and residents will be asked to use alternative sites.
East Durham will be served by sites in Thornley, Horden and Coxhoe which will be open six days a week, and will be closed on Fridays.
From June 1 to September 30, hours are 10am until 4pm on weekdays and 9am until 6pm on weekends and bank holidays.
From October 1 until March 31, hours are 10am until 4pm on weekdays and 9am until 3.30pm on weekends and bank holidays.
All sites across the county will close at noon on May 31 to enable the handover.
They will all also be closed on Christmas Day and New Years’ Day. People can get further information on their nearest site and opening times by visiting www.durham.gov.uk/hmrc or by ringing Durham County Council on 03000 261000.
