A group of volunteers from a South Shields-based charitable organisation have donated sleeping bags and tents to homeless people in the region.
The People’s Angels Selling Group run by Lynn Davis, Alison Davis, Sue Stephenson and Kylie Strasenburgh, have donated £300 worth of sleeping bags, tents and foils, to give to homeless people in Newcastle.
The voluntary organisation, formerly known as Grace Angels, was formed two years ago and has raised £25,000 for various causes across the region.
Mum-of-two Lynn, 50, from Ashley Road, who helped to organise the donations, said the team has joined forces with Hebburn Helps foodbank and charity Hope North East which supports all those affected by substance misuse.
Lynn said: “We are a local group who give money to worthy causes through the sale of donated items.
“When we were Grace Angels we used to just raise money for Grace House, which offers a short break service for children with life limiting conditions and disabilities, but now we raise funds for various causes.
“This time we have teamed up with Angie Comerford, from Hebburn Helps and Jo Nicoll, from Hope North East, who will go out into the city centre on Saturday and give out clothes and food and our donations to homeless people. “We have provided 10 two-man tents; 13 waterproof sleeping bags and 20 foils, worth £300, which we will give out to homeless people.
“We raised the money then bought them online and they will help around 53 people living in Newcastle.”
The organisation has also donated £100 worth of food to foodbank Hebburn Helps, which was set up to help struggling families in South Tyneside.
Other causes they have helped include donating £1,500 to the Hemodialysis ward of the RVI and provided two little boys with special needs specially adapted bikes together worth £1,500. The same amount was also donated to a three year old girl called Layla Davis so she could receive a Tiny Trax wheelchair.
Items can be donated to three collection points in South Shieds: 79 St Vincent’s Street; 45 Ashely Road, and 103 Galsworthy Road Biddick Hall.
