A charity has appealed to the people of Hartlepool to ensure that a national charity drive becomes a huge success in town.

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning will be back next month and once again, the town is expected to play a big part.

This is a fantastic opportunity but we have so many stores and just not enough volunteers to cover the collections. This is why we are appealing for help

The event is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event to help people facing cancer. Every year, officials ask people all over the UK to host their own coffee mornings in September.

Liz Airey, Macmillan fundraising manager for Teesside, Hartlepool, Peterlee and Wearside, said: “Last year alone we raised £25 million and this year we are aiming to raise even more.”

This year’s event, which is the seventh to be staged, is being held in partnership with M&S and Liz added: “This year Marks and Spencer’s have once again given Macmillan the opportunity to collect within the stores throughout the month of September,

“The local fundraising group are appealing to local people to help them collect at M&S Hartlepool Marina.

“This is a fantastic opportunity but we have so many stores and just not enough volunteers to cover the collections. This is why we are appealing for help.

“If you can spare a couple of hours in September, or maybe you are part of local brownie group, football team, darts team, any group, you may like to collect together. Any support you could give will make a huge difference.”

Macmillanaims to improve the lives of everyone living with cancer and to inspire millions of others to do the same.

The charity’s research helps people understand the needs, numbers and experiences of people affected by cancer, to develop and influence better care and services.
