The event is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event to help people facing cancer. Every year, officials ask people all over the UK to host their own coffee mornings in September.
Liz Airey, Macmillan fundraising manager for Teesside, Hartlepool, Peterlee and Wearside, said: “Last year alone we raised £25 million and this year we are aiming to raise even more.”
This year’s event, which is the seventh to be staged, is being held in partnership with M&S and Liz added: “This year Marks and Spencer’s have once again given Macmillan the opportunity to collect within the stores throughout the month of September,
“The local fundraising group are appealing to local people to help them collect at M&S Hartlepool Marina.
“This is a fantastic opportunity but we have so many stores and just not enough volunteers to cover the collections. This is why we are appealing for help.
“If you can spare a couple of hours in September, or maybe you are part of local brownie group, football team, darts team, any group, you may like to collect together. Any support you could give will make a huge difference.”
