As part of this year’s theme of “carer friendly communities” the charity has organised a treat for some of the borough’s 10,000 carers at the Best Western Grand Hotel Swainson Street on Friday, June 12 from 10am to 3.30pm.
Supported by Hartlepool Borough Council, the event will include a free two-course lunch, and invited speakers will provide information on the Care Act.
Jan Holli, a support worker, said: “We’ll also have representatives from a number of local organisations who carers can meet up with informally for information on anything from benefits to employment, training to relaxation and therapies.
“This invitation is open to any carer – that’s a person who looks after a family member, friend or neighbour because of illness, disability or frailty – living in Hartlepool or the surrounding villages, regardless of whether they are in receipt of Carers Allowance or not.
“Registration with Hartlepool Carers is not essential as this can be done on the day of the event.”
During the afternoon there will also be Laughter Yoga by Sandra from Golden Tree Community Interest Company in the afternoon for people who want to join in.
The charity also wants companies to take part in the Carers’ Discount Card Scheme, which gives the card holder the opportunity of enjoying discounted perks.
There’s a limited number of places available for the meal.
To book a slot, or to register a business as part of the Carers’ Discount Card Scheme, call the Hartlepool Carers on 0191 283 095.
Meals must be booked by 1pm on Thursday.
