Children inside car involved in crash on busy Hartlepool road

Three children were passengers in a car involved in a traffic smash in Hartlepool today.

It happened in Rossmere Way, close to the junction with Balmoral Road, on Monday afternoon.

Both cars involved, a Vauxhall Zafira and a Ford Focus, were left written off.

The female driver of the Ford Focus is believed to have been left shaken by the smash but the female driver of the Zafira and her three children, aged 10, eight and 18-months are believed to be unhurt.

Officers from Stranton fire station rushed to the scene.

Crew manager John Stubbs said: "We're not sure exactly what happened.

"It looks like the lady in the Focus was a little bit shaken but the mother of the three children who drove the Zafira was OK.

"They were all out of the cars when we got there and we just made the vehicles safe by disconnecting the batteries and cleaning up the fuel spillage that was left behnd.

The accident happened at about 4.15pm.
