Children will get their say

PRIMARY school children will get the chance to have their say on how to secure a brighter future for Hartlepool.

Dozens of youngsters from schools throughout the town are set to come together for a debate.

The event is being hosted by the West View Project, based in Hartlepool’s Miers Avenue, and will take place on Monday at the Maritime Experience, on Hartlepool Marina.

Councillor Chris Simmons, leader of the Labour group, will chair the event which is being supported by Hartlepool Borough Council.

Rebecca Wise, participation worker with the West View Project, said: “The focus of the day will be on how children feel about their town and how safe they feel within the Hartlepool community.

“The young people of our town have so much to offer and their views are so important in taking the town forward.

“The large majority of schools have indicated that they will be contributing to the debate and everyone is looking forward to hearing what pupils have to say.

“Young people are our future and they are as well placed as anyone to inform us as to what the town’s strengths and weaknesses are and how we should progress in the future.”
