Christmas came early this week for children attending a council-run after-school and holiday club.
Dozens of children, aged three to 16, regularly attend the Oscar Playcentre at West Rugby Club, Catcote Road, Hartlepool, to help ease the pressure on working parents.
Youngsters were treated to a Christmas buffet, disco and a visit from Spiderman, Elsa from Frozen and, of course, Santa Claus, himself.
Sandra Robinson, the council’s out of school co-ordinator, said: “We have a great group of children who attend the Oscar Playcentre and they fully deserved their pre-Christmas treat.
“Staff prepared a Christmas buffet and they all wore party hats to get into the Christmas spirit.
“This was followed by a disco, but the biggest surprise for our children was when Santa Claus, Spiderman and Elsa made a guest appearance.”
Oscar’s after-school service involves staff picking up children from school and taking them to the Catcote Road centre, where they take part in a wide range of educational and fun activities. Parents then have until 6pm to collect their children.
The scheme also operates during most school holidays when parents are able to drop off their children from 8am with breakfast provided for them on arrival.
They then embark on an action-packed day of fun and thrills prior to being collected by parents by 5.45pm.
Oscar’s has been hailed as “outstanding” by Ofsted inspectors. Anyone wishing to book, view the or requiring further information should email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 07771 936968 when it reopens on Monday, January 4.
