Clean team sweeps into Shotton Colliery
Pupils from two schools have been tidying up their community.
The youngsters from Shotton Primary School and St Lourdes Primary School have been planting trees and joining in a litter pick around Shotton Colliery Community Centre skate park.
They were joined by members of Durham Constabulary, including Bertie Bear, and representatives of Durham County Council, Neighbourhood Watch, parish councillors and staff from Shotton Colliery Community Centre.
Officers from Peterlee beat unit regularly visit schools to talk to youngsters.
Pc Ralph Thompson, from the unit, said: “The youngsters from Shotton Colliery told us they were concerned about the environment and wanted to be involved in making it better. As a result, we joined our partner agencies and organised the tree-planting and litter-picking event.”
