College hairdressing team is a cut above the rest
East Durham College's hairdressing department has been specially commended by one of the sector's major organisations.
It has become one of only two colleges in the country to have a team fully registered by the Hair Council.
Ten members of staff have received the certification, which required them to reach a certain level of qualification to achieve the special status.
The aim of the Hair Council registration is to help promote the importance of education in hairdressing and barbering to students.
The Hair Council has already championed the hard work done by East Durham College this year, awarding barbering lecturer Alison Scattergood with its Master Craftsmen award, and invited her to be a part of their national Think Tank committee, which aims to improve barbering education.
East Durham College curriculum manager for hair and beauty, Simon Smith, has praised the hard work and dedication from his team for their continuing commitment to improve the standards of training and teaching.
He said: “The team in hairdressing here are absolutely fantastic and are so driven to make sure the students who attend East Durham College are getting the highest quality of teaching on their courses.
“This is a great honour to receive this award from the Hair Council and we look forward to working alongside them to continually improve our teaching output, and championing the role of education in hairdressing and barbering.”
