POLICE are investigating after a two-car collision which closed a road for two hours.

Officers from the road policing unit at Cleveland Police were called to Hartlepool’s Clarence Road, opposite the Mail’s office, after a collision involving a red Ford Puma and a silver Vauxhall Astra on Friday night.

The vehicles were blocking the carriageway and the road was closed for two hours until around 11.30pm.

Both cars and a stretch of railings were damaged in the incident.

A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said the 38-year-old driver of the Astra was taken to the University Hospital of North Tees, in Stockton, by ambulance with back injuries but was later released.

The 19-year-old driver of the Puma was walking wounded and didn’t need hospital treatment.

The incident happened at 9.10pm on Friday.
