THE Chinese community in Hartlepool is gearing up for a colourful ly cultural event.
Hartlepool Chinese Association is hosting its annual Chinese New Year Celebrations at The Grand Hotel, in the town’s Swainson Street, on Sunday, February 16.
The event promises to bring colour and culture to the town with everything from a three-course Chinese meal to a charging dragon and oriental dancing.
There will be tai chi demonstrations and the sounds of Chinese singing and instruments.
Peter Gowland, from Hartlepool Voluntary Development Association which is helping to organise and publicise the event, said: “Come along for a brilliant day.”
He said: “The Chinese Association is part of Hartlepool’s cultural fabric and this event is just brilliant for adults and children.
“It’s a real cultural experience.
“The Grand Hotel gets adorned in Chinese decoration which makes it look fantastic.
“There is a tai chi demonstration, Chinese dancing, Chinese singing and a lion dance which is a real noisy dynamic spectacular where a lion charges through the hall accompanied by gongs and bells and then a performance on the stage.
“The dancing and singing is just brilliant and it’s open to everybody, kids and adults.
“There’s also a gorgeous three-course Chinese meal to be had, which is usually delicious.”
He added: “It’s fun, it’s exciting and it’s noisy!
“It shows off another side of Hartlepool.”
