YOUNGSTERS have been getting used to their new surroundings after an after-school club moved into new premises.
At the start of the Easter holidays, the Hartlepool Borough Council-run Oscar Playcentre merged its two existing operations in Miers Avenue and Wynyard Road into one, based at West Rugby Club on Catcote Road.
The facility provides activities for children aged three-16, and the merger is part of the local authority’s ongoing drive for efficiencies.
Sandra Robinson, the council’s out-of-school co-ordinator, said: “By merging our two centres into one, we are saving money on overheads but will maintain the excellent level of service.
“West Rugby Club is centrally located within the town and the facilities are ideal.
“I’d like to thank West Rugby Club and the Hartlepool 6th Form College, who own the building. They have both been very supported and we do appreciate the help they have given.”
Under the programme, fully-trained and qualified staff collect children from school and transport them to the Oscar Playcentre where there are a range of activities on offer. Parents have until 6pm to pick their children up.
During the school holidays, there is full day care provision to make life easier for working parents. Children can be dropped off as early as 8.30am and have to be collected by 5.45pm.
Over the Easter school holidays, the centre is open throughout the school break and activities including a trip to the movies, Summerhill, a teddy bear’s picnic, mad hair day plus art and crafts are all taking place.
Sandra added: “If parents are having to juggle working and looking after their children, Oscar could just be the answer. Children have a great time with us and parents can relax knowing that their children are in safe hands.”
