The consultation on proposed public realm improvements to the Church Street area was originally due to end today.

However, the deadline has now been extended until Friday, September 30, to allow staff and students at Cleveland College of Art and Design Hartlepool further time to comment on the proposals.

The Church Street Innovation & Skills Quarter is one of the priority areas identified by the town’s council to be transformed as part of the Hartlepool Regeneration Masterplan.

The council is set to receive almost £5.5million in Local Growth Funding from the Tees Valley Combined Authority to help deliver the project.

The ambitious plans to revitalise the area have already received a huge boost with the building of a new £11million Cleveland College of Art and Design, which started earlier this year and the, purchase of the Grade II listed former General Post Office, in Whitby Street, which is planned to be converted into units for start-up businesses specialising in creative industries.

Residents are invited to complete an online survey about the proposed improvements at www.hartlepool.gov.uk/church-street-improvements

Councillor Kevin Cranney, chairman of the council’s Regeneration Services Committee, said: “The aim is to breathe new life into Church Street but retain and build upon the area’s heritage and historical past, and I hope people will seize the opportunity to have their say by completing the online survey.”
