COUNCIL bosses have come up with a wheely good idea to try and encourage people to take up cycling.
Hartlepool Borough Council’s sport and physical activity team is offering a bicycle repair and maintenance service from Summerhill, a 100-acre outdoor activities centre and Local Nature Reserve (LNR) off Catcote Road.
This comes on the back of a successful bid to Sport England for £10,000 which is to be used to further develop Summerhill as a base for cycling.
Outdoor activities co-ordinator Adam Reah and his assistant Marc Donnelly are offering the repair and maintenance service to anyone who books their bikes in at Summerhill.
Adam said: “All we would ask is that bikes are clean when they are brought in.”
Bike owners will have to pay for any new parts that are required, although labour charges will be free for the first year of the scheme.
Adam added: “We’re happy to discuss repair options with bike owners and we will only carry out work with their consent. We would also be happy to try to source appropriate parts on their behalf.”
Cyclists can book their bikes in by calling Summerhill on (01429) 284584.
