THE countdown has begun to a park’s summer extravaganza that promises to be the best yet.
A host of activities will be on offer in Hartlepool’s Ward Jackson Park while music will be at the heart of this year’s event as local band Sound Intention take over the bandstand.
The annual fair takes place on Sunday, August 28, from 1pm-5pm. It is organised by the Friends of Ward Jackson Park, a group of volunteers who aim to get more people using the greenspace and aim to preserve its Victorian splendour.
Group chairman Rachel Wilson said: “This annual family fun day is becoming so popular, everyone seems to love it.
“It’s time for people to put the date in their diary and make sure they don’t miss out.
“It is growing bigger and better every year and this August will be no different.
“We have a host of plans that are very exciting and there’s something for everyone.”
Among the attractions will be fairground rides, a bouncy slide, face painters, craft activities, a candy floss stall, trampolines and a climbing tower.
Rachel is backing four-piece band Sound Intention to be the highlight of the day.
She added: “They are a fantastic new sound in music that will be playing in the bandstand.
“Everyone from the age of one to 99 will be spellbound by this talented group.
“I want to urge people to put the date in their diaries and come along and see what we have in store. They won’t be disappointed.”
The Friends of Ward Jackson Park also hosts an Easter fair and a Christmas Christingle.
The last fair, in April, saw more than 2,000 people descend on the park, which was double the normal attendance.
