ARMED police were called to a cul-de-sac after reports of a man in the street armed with a machete.

Officers from Durham Police were called out at around 8am on Monday following the reports.

Armed officers, along with the dog section, were sent to carry out a full search of a house in Emerson Court, Horden, and the surrounding area.

Items were seized and officers are said to be carrying out further inquiries.

Inspector Jason Meecham, of Durham Police, said: “This is an isolated incident and both parties were known to each other, there was no threat to the wider public.”

One local businessman, whose shop is based in the village, said: “There was armed police around the back of the shops on Wednesday morning.

“Apparently some armed police wearing helmets were pointing guns at a house and there was about 10 police cars.”
