Arrest after attempted post office robbery in Hartlepool

POLICE swooped on a Hartlepool neighbourhood after a man tried to rob a post office.

The would-be robber went into Middleton Road Post Office, in Raby Road, Hartlepool, just before 2pm yesterday and threatened staff but fled empty-handed.

Large number of police quickly descended on the Mill House area and after a search of the area arrested a man in connection with the crime in nearby Belk Street.

Police inquiries continued in the area for several hours afterwards and included the use of a sniffer dog while the force helicopter hovered overhead.

A Cleveland Police spokesman said: “Police were called to reports of an attempted robbery at a Hartlepool post office at around 1.50pm.

“A man entered the store and threatened staff before fleeing. Police conducted a local area search.

“A man was stopped on Belk Street at around 2.20pm and arrested in connection with the incident.”
