Bike thief targeted college

A BICYCLE thief targeted a college twice on the same day.

Dwayne Ryan stole one bike and tried to swipe another from the grounds of Hartlepool College of Further Education, in Stockton Street.

The 18-year-old took a £400 bike then returned with bolt cutters to try and take a £249 cycle.

Ryan admitted to theft and attempted theft on February 8 at Hartlepool Magistrates’ Court

Vicky Wilson, prosecuting, said: “He was seen at the college with another male and rode off on a bike with him.

“Later the same day he is seen with the same male attempting to steal a bike using bolt cutters.

“They were stopped some 20 metres from the scene.”

Adrian Morris, mitigating, said his client is currently on licence after being released from prison on September 28 and is likely to be recalled to serve more time.

He added: “Because of this he has fallen into a depression and because of this a report is needed.”

Town justices ordered a pre-sentence report to be prepared on Ryan, of Howard Street, Hartlepool.

He was granted bail with the condition not to enter the grounds of the college until he is sentenced on March 5.
