Burglars raid Co-op store

THIEVES made off with around £1,000-worth of cigarettes after a midnight burglary.

The two men forced their way into the Co-op store in Middle Street, Blackhall, through a side window before prising open the shutter of the display.

A variety of different brands of tobacco were taken, and CCTV footage shows two men in the store.

Detective Constable Andy Reynolds, of Peterlee CID, said: “We’re appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time who saw anything suspicious.

“We have had similar thefts in the North-East, so it could be that they have travelled out of the area to commit this crime.

“They have been wearing quite distinctive clothing and we hope this will help the investigation.”

The incident happened just before midnight on Wednesday.
