A BUS driver escaped uninjured after thugs are believed to have fired an air rifle at his bus.

The driver was travelling in a Stagecoach bus in Wynyard Road when the suspect shot was fired and damaged the driver’s window which was open at the time.

Today officers from Cleveland Police appealed for witnesses to the incident which could have caused serious injury to the bus driver.

A spokeswoman said: “On Tuesday, at around 4.50pm, a Stagecoach bus was fired upon with what is believed to be an air rifle, near to the Owton Manor Social Club, in Wynyard Road, Hartlepool.

“Damage was caused to the driver’s window, which was open at the time and could have caused a serious injury to the driver had it hit him.

“We would urge anyone with information to come forward.”
