POLICE are warning people to be on their guard when using cash points in Hartlepool.
Cleveland Police has issued the warning to be vigilant after two men tried to distract a potential victim when he was at the Yorkshire Bank cash machine in Church Street at 7.15am on Monday.
The two men stood either side of him and started talking to him in a bid to distract him.
The potential victim remained vigilant and the two suspects left empty-handed.
The would-be crooks are described as Eastern European and aged in their 30s.
Both wore jeans, woollen hats and one was wearing a leather jacket.
Police are warning members of the public to be cautious and to report any suspicious incidents on 101 or to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
