THE Chief Constable of North Yorkshire Police arrested two wanted men in Hartlepool after following them on road for nearly 45 miles.

Chief Constable Dave Jones was on patrol with the force’s road crime time on Thursday when they were alerted to a vehicle travelling through North Yorkshire carrying two men wanted for conspiracy to commit burglary.

Officers who were stationed in Bedale at the time set off in an attempt to locate the vehicle, a white LDV panel van, and tracked the men down in McDonald’s car park, in Burn Road, Hartlepool.

The two men, aged 37 and 26, were arrested as part of the force’s Operation Hawk.

They have been released on bail while inquiries continue.

Chief Constable Jones said: “I was really pleased to be able to get out onto the frontline and help out my colleagues who have worked tirelessly to make the operation an ongoing success.”
