Cleveland Police issue warning after reported burglaries in Hartlepool

Police are warning members of the public to be vigilant following a number of reports of burglaries recently and are providing crime prevention advice.

Cleveland Police have received a number of reports of burglaries across Hartlepool, Stockton, Middlesbrough and Redcar and Cleveland during lockdown.

While officers will continue to patrol ‘hotspot areas’ affected, Cleveland Police are asking members of the public to adhere to simple advice to help prevent more people from becoming victims of burglaries.

Officers say a simple measure such as ensuring doors and windows are locked and secure with keys out of sight is highly advised. Using a burglar alarm is also a significant deterrent.

People are also urged to use plug-in timers to light their homes during hours of darkness are recommended as they deter burglars by making your home look occupied.

Cleveland Police have asked people to keep the rear of their properties secure and unable to be accessed easily. This means any gates should be securely locked – sheds and garages should also be secure with any tools and ladders out of sight.

Using a UV pen on valuable items is also advised in order to help police trace any lost or stolen items.
