Customers help foil robbery attempt at Hartlepool service station

A WOULD-BE robber has been stopped in his tracks by quick thinking customers.

Police were called to Warren Service Station in Easington Road, Hartlepool after reports of a man trying to rob the place.

However, customers were able to foil his attempt and managed to keep him there until officers arrived.

The drama unfolded at about 6.50pm, today.

Firefighters from Cleveland Fire Brigade were also on hand after a small fire was started during the course of the attempted robbery.

One man has been arrested and is currently helping police with inquiries.
