A FEMALE cyclist was left shaken after hooded youths tried to knock her off her bike to steal it.

The lone female, in her 30s, was riding along Raby Road, Hartlepool, and went onto the pavement to pass North Cemetery. But police say as she passed the cemetery gates, three or four youths appeared with their hoods over their faces, grabbed hold of her and tried to pull her off the bike.

As a struggle followed, they said the bike was theirs.

A couple walking past saw the struggle and as the man shouted, the group let go of her, allowing her to ride away. The youths then ran back into the cemetery.

The incident happened around 7.45pm on Tuesday, September 24, and the youths are described as white, aged 15 or 16, wearing grey or black hoodies, of slim build and with local accents.

Anyone who can help identify the youths should call PC Terence Phillips on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
