A PAEDOPHILE is facing life behind bars after he raped a 14-year-old girl four times and made her perform sex acts on him.

Andrew Morton, 32, was branded a “dangerous predatory paedophile” by a judge at Durham Crown Court and told to expect to spend many years behind bars.

Prosecutor Shaun Dodds said Morton forced the girl into submission by placing his hand around her throat and over her mouth.

Mr Dodds told the jury Morton has a previous conviction for a violent rape for which he was given 10 years at Newcastle Crown Court in 2004.

Morton, formerly of Blackhall but now of Ash Grove, Hull, was convicted by the Durham jury of four charges of rape, one of sexual activity with a child, and two of inciting a child to commit a sex act.

Judge Christopher Prince said: “This case involves a predatory paedophile who was ferocious in pursuit of his victim.

“There was choking, taking hold of the throat and covering of the mouth.

“I am considering a life sentence or sentence of 27 years, including an extended licence. My main priority is to protect the public.”

The judge said the case fell into a complex area of sentencing law and he invited prosecution and defence barristers to make submissions.

Morton was remanded in custody and will be sentenced on a date to be fixed within the next two months.
