Durham Constabulary have released a video showing CCTV of two men who are believed to have set the two vehicles on fire in Peterlee.

The incident occurred outside of an address on Spire Hollin in Peterlee shortly after midnight on Monday, November 18.

The car and caravan were very quickly consumed by flames, both of which were next to a house where people inside were asleep.

Fortunately the elderly couple, granddaughter and her partner, managed to safely leave the house while the two suspects made off on foot towards Basingstoke Road.

In the images taken from the footage released by the force two men can be seen in the area.

Officers are now appealing for anyone who may be able to identify the men to come forward.

PC Ben Cloke said: “We would like to speak to these men in connection with the incident and would ask anyone with information to come forward.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident reference 3 of November 18.
