Driver won’t be charged over death of pensioner who was ‘dragged’ along by HGV

A DRIVER arrested after a fatal crash has been released released without charge.

A 77-year-old woman died after she was struck by a HGV at the junction of Cowpen Lane and Marsh House Avenue, in Billingham, on Tuesday, July 30.

A 40-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident, which happened at around 3.35pm.

The North East Ambulance Service said at the time that the woman had been hit and “dragged” along by the vehicle. She was flown by the North East Air Ambulance to the James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, where she later died.

a Cleveland Police spokesman said: “A file will now be prepared for the coroner”.
