A FRAUDSTER has admitted posing as a trading standards officer to cash in on on-the-spot fines he issued to shops.

Daniel Thompson, 24, went into three Premier stores in town and claimed they had sold alcohol to underage customers.

Two town shops paid Thompson £200 but when he tried the same trick at a third store the shopkeeper was suspicious and Thompson left empty-handed.

He pleaded guilty to three counts of fraud by false representation when he appeared at Hartlepool Magistrates’ Court.

The offences were on July 27, July 29 and August 3.

He also admitted two unrelated offences of damaging three windows at a house in Rydal Street and of using threatening words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress on August 13.

Thompson, of Tower Street, Hartlepool, was bailed and will be sentenced on September 19.
