THE funeral of a much-loved Hartlepool mum who was stabbed to death was held yesterday.

Mourners gathered at Stranton Cemetery, in the town, to pay their final respects to fish shop owner Angela Smeaton.

The 50-year-old who owned Ange’s Chippy, in Owton Manor Lane, was found with serious injuries when police were called to her home in Eddleston Walk, Hartlepool, in the early hours of Tuesday, April 15. She was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Her partner, Paul Smart, 49, was charged with murder and appeared at Teesside Crown Court last month.

Smart will next appear at the court for a plea and case management hearing on Thursday, July 3.

Dozens of emotional tributes were left online after Angela’s death and her shocked neighbours described her as a “kind and lovely woman”.
