Gas mask robber steals £400 in terrifying raid on convenience store

SHOP staff were left shaken and upset after a man wearing a gas mask and wielding a baseball bat demanded the contents of the till.

The man escaped with about £400 from McColl’s in Fulwell Road, Peterlee.

“This was a particularly nasty robbery,” said Detective Constable Chris Bentham of Durham Police. “We are appealing for help in tracing this man.

“He was alone, had a dark coloured baseball bat, and was wearing a dark jacket.

“The jacket looks like a Superdry brand, it had a green logo on the rear shoulder, and green trim on the hood.”

“Anyone with information should contact us as soon as possible.”

The robbery happened at about 10.30pm on December 15. Contact Durham Police on the non-emergency 101 number.
