A HARTLEPOOL man arrested on suspicion of a bomb hoax has been released from police bail without further action.

The 34-year-ol was arrested in Gateshead last month on suspicion of alleged malicious communication in connection with a bomb scare which resulted in hundreds of workers being evacuated from Virgin Media centres in Middlesbrough and Stockton.

The former Virgin Media employee has been told he will face no further action following the incident on Tuesday, March 19.

Cleveland Police received an anonymous report that a suspicious package may be located in a Virgin Media business premises on Teesside.

However the anonymous caller only mentioned the company name and did not identify which of the stores.

A total of 300 staff from Virgin Media’s call centre on Preston Farm Industrial Estate, in Stockton, were evacuated while officers and sniffer dogs searched the building.

The Virgin Media store in Cleveland shopping centre was also evacuated.

Anyone with information relating to the incident is asked to call Cleveland Police on its non-emergency number 101.
