Hartlepool man jailed after unlawfully carrying knives at shopping centre
A man initially spared jail after unlawfully carrying nine and 10-inch knives has been locked up after flouting the terms of his original sentence.
Jeffrey Dylan Mincher, 29, of Richmond Street, Hartlepool, was placed on a community order in December after he was convicted of two charges of unlawfully possessing the blades at the town’s Middleton Grange Shopping Centre on December 16.
Yet, after admitting one count of breaching the order’s requirements by failing to attend induction appointments in both December and January, he was jailed for 34 weeks at Teesside Magistrates’ Court after he was re-sentenced for a series of earlier offences.
Mincher was jailed for 26 weeks for the two Middleton Grange offences and received a further eight weeks behind bars for possessing drugs in Middlesbrough on July 9 and for stealing a pedal cycle in Hartlepool on September 10.
Magistrates decided to jail him as they had “no confidence” that “the defendant would comply if a further community order were imposed”.
