Hartlepool woman to appear before judge accused of arson attack on Peterlee house


A WOMAN will face a crown court judge accused of committing arson.

Hartlepool woman Sophie Marie Stephenson is accused of committing the offence in Peterlee on Wednesday, May 14.

The 29-year-old, of Murray Street, is charged with damaging by fire the interior of a house to the value of £2,247.28 belonging to housing provider East Durham Homes, intending to destroy or damage property or being reckless as to whether property would be destroyed or damaged and intending by the damage to endanger the life of another or being reckless as to whether the life of another would be thereby endangered.

Justices sitting at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court transferred the proceedings to be heard at Durham Crown Court on June 12 and Stephenson was given conditional bail.
