A MAN who used a woman’s stolen bank card to try to withdraw cash just hours after her home had been burgled has been jailed for 12 months.

Steven Walton, 36, was caught on CCTV at a garage and shop close to the victim’s home attempting to steal money.

The bank card had been stolen along with the woman’s handbag just hours earlier in a burglary at Chester Road, Hartlepool.

When the victim rang her bank to cancel the card at 10am on March 30, she was told two attempts had already been made to withdraw cash at 8am and again at 9.10am.

Walton, of Mapleton Road, Hartlepool denied burglary, but admitted handling stolen goods.

He claimed had been approached by someone else to try and withdraw cash and said he had acted “foolishly”.
