The man who killed a much-loved family man and devoted dad is starting a six year jail sentence.
A judge said Paul Sutton, 29, robbed married dad-of-one Mark Dixon of his life for nothing.
Drunken Sutton killed Mark, 32, of Peterlee, after punching him when he questioned Sutton about a remark he made when they walked past each other in Victoria Road, Hartlepool, at around 4am on Sunday, October 5.
The force of Sutton’s unprovoked attack knocked Mark unconscious and he hit his head hard on the pavement.
Mark, dad to six-year-old Ella, died in James Cook hospital, in Middlesbrough six days later.
Sutton, formerly of Raby Gardens, Hartlepool, was found guilty of manslaughter after a trial at Teesside Crown Court earlier this month.
In a victim impact statement read at today’s sentencing in Newcastle, Mark’s wife Loraine said: “Now there is a part of our family missing from our lives forever.
“We will never get over the death of my loving husband and Ella’s devoted daddy.”
Jailing Sutton, Mrs Justice Elisabeth Laing said: “This is a tragic case, no sentence I pass would bring Mr Dixon back.
“It is all the more terrible as [his family] know Mr Dixon lost his life over nothing; your drunken shout in the street in the early hours of the morning and your drunken over reaction when Mr Dixon walked over towards you.”
