A MAN charged with manslaughter following a fatal house fire has appeared in court.

Paul Nash was brought before Hartlepool Magistrates’ Court in custody to face one charge of the unlawful killing of 44-year-old town man Andrew Simon.

The defendant did not enter a plea to the charge and spoke only to confirm his identity.

Chairman of the bench Christine Mulgrew remanded the 29-year-old in custody and sent the case to be dealt with at Teesside Crown Court, in Middlesbrough, where it will next be heard in front of a judge on August 12.

Nash, whose address was given in court as Holme House Prison, in Stockton, was remanded in custody until that time.

Mr Simon died following the blaze in the living room of his home in Dent Street, Hartlepool, in the early hours of Tuesday, June 11.
