POLICE were called to reports of a man carrying a samurai sword in a busy drinking spot last night.
At least police vehicles were seen in Church Street, Hartlepool, as officers responded to concerns that a man was armed with a large blade.
Police arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon after their search ended at a nearby flat. He was in police custody this morning.
Nobody was injured during the incident that happened at around 9.40pm.
A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “Police received a report of a man believed to be in possession of a samurai sword in the Church Street area at around 9.40pm last night, Thursday, February 19.
“He was detained in nearby flats and nobody was injured in the incident.
“A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and he remains in police custody this morning.”
