Man arrested on suspicion of illegal money lending after Hartlepool raid

A MAN been arrested on suspicion of illegal money lending following a raid in Hartlepool.

The England Illegal Money Lending Team working in partnership with Hartlepool Borough Council and Cleveland Police seized documentation during the raid on Tuesday.

The man, 51, was questioned by officers from the team and has been released on bail until Friday, April 11, while further inquires are carried out.

Principal trading standards & licensing officer at the council, Ian Harrison said: “Loan sharks prey on the vulnerable and can have a devastating impact on individuals and families.

“Anyone with information about loan sharks should call the confidential Illegal Money lending hotline on 0300 5552222.”

Nationally the team has secured more than 300 prosecutions for illegal money lending and related activity.
