A MAN will appear in court this morning after being charged with the murder of Hartlepool mum Angela Smeaton.

A 49-year-old man will appear at Hartlepool Magistrates’ Court.

Fish and chip shop owner Angela, 50, was found with serious injuries at her home, in Eddleston Walk, Hartlepool, in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Officers said she was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Angela is said to have lived in the area all of her life and owned Ange’s Chippy, in Owton Manor Lane.

Neighbours yesterday expressed their “shock” and “heartbreak” at the death of the “kind and lovely woman”.

One neighbour, who wished not to be named, said: “She was just so lovely, she would do anything for you and was always so friendly.

“To be honest she was very happy go lucky, you would never hear her complaining about anything.”

Police remained at the scene of the death all day yesterday and flowers were left outside the home carrying messages of loving tributes.

The home remained cordoned off yesterday while forensic experts carried out their investigations.

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “A 49 year old man has now been charged with murder and is due to appear at Hartlepool Magistrates’ Court this morning.”
