The 54-year-old pedestrian remains in James Cook University Hospital receiving treatment for head and internal injuries after he was hit by a car in Hartlepool.

He is described as in a critical but stable condition.

The 21-year-old driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.

Police are now appealing for witnesses following a serious collision that occurred on Raby Road, near to the junction of Hart Lane at around 9:35pm on Thursday, December 26.

A red Mercedes CLA and a pedestrian were involved in the collision.

Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the event, has dash came footage or nearby private CCTV to contact PC Neil Armstrong on the non-emergency number 101, quoting the event number 218581.

Three ambulances were called to the scene and paramedics rushed the man to hospital.
