Man faces attack charge after a woman is stabbed in Peterlee house and later found at Middlesbrough Travelodge

A man has appeared in court charged in connect with a stabbing which later saw the suspected victim taken to hospital from a Travelodge 18 miles away.

Mandeep Atwal, 35, of Brougham Court, Peterlee, was remanded by Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court following his first appearance to face a charge of grievous bodily harm.

He will next appear before Durham Crown Court in February.

It is understood a woman was wounded in a disturbance in Peterlee and later taken to hospital from the Travelodge in Middlesbrough.

Her injuries are not thought to be serious.

A Durham Constabulary spokesperson said: “The incident is believed to have happened at a house in Peterlee on Tuesday night.”

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed it was called at 10.27pm on Tuesday to the hotel in Newport Road, Middlesbrough.

It took one patient to hospital by ambulance.
