A MAN has gone on trial over the alleged murder of his partner.
Paul Smart, 49, is accused of murdering Angela Smeaton, 50, in the early hours of April 15.
A jury has been sworn in at Teesside Crown Court today.
They have been told Smart admits killing Ms Smeaton, who ran a fish and chip shop in Hartlepool, but he is claiming the defence of loss of self control.
The prosecution will outline their case against Smart, of Eddleston Walk, Hartlepool this afternoon.
The trial is expected to run into next week.
Angela, a mum of Anthony, is said to have lived in the same area all of her life and owned Ange’s Chippy, in Owton Manor Lane.
