Man in court accused of smashing wine bottle over a dad’s head

A MAN accused of a wounding charge has been remanded in custody after a dad was left with a serious head injury and his daughter was punched in a street attack.

Dean Barber, 30, of Hurworth House, Wingate, appeared at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court in connection with a disturbance that happened in North Road West, Wingate, at 10pm on Sunday, near to the Top House pub and Regency pizza shop.

A man in his early 50s, who had been out for the evening with his wife, is alleged to have been hit over the head with a wine bottle while his 16-year-old daughter is said to have been hit in the face.

Barber is charged with wounding and no plea was entered.

The case was sent to be heard at Durham Crown Court on November 11.

Barber was remanded in custody until then.
